Train like the Sloths. Win like the Sloths.
Why?
Formerly, we had a fairly lengthy blurb detailing our experiences and what we have to offer. After reflecting on the important things in life, we decided to leave it at this - if you want to make a change in your life, we love and support you. If you’d like our help in doing so, we are prepared to provide everything we have to offer. If not, we love and support you nonetheless.
This life is beautiful, and so are you.

After getting injured running and deciding I wanted a change, I googled weight lifting in Flagstaff and I found a small gym called Old Roots and a team called the Power Sloths. I loved the name “Power Sloths”, so I decided to check them out. Later that day I met Sully and got in my first lift. Sully’s psyche is contagious, and I immediately joined the team and have been lifting consistently ever since. As awkward as I am, I am proud to be a part of the family that Sully has created.
When I started lifting with Sully I was not sure what I wanted to pursue in fitness and he was immediately psyched to help me get strong and figure out what I liked. A few months into lifting with the Sloths’ Sully mentioned a powerlifting meet the Sloths were competing at and asked if I would want to try it out. I was enjoying benching so why not? We bumped up my calories and got STRONG! It was genuinely difficult to eat enough food but I just kept feeling and looking better! I had never felt such food freedom. I hit my highest weight ever at 121lbs and took first place at my first powerlifting meet!
We then pivoted directions and moved towards a bodybuilding approach and started a cut. After 3 months cutting I am down to 109lbs and have never looked better! My calories never got crazy low and cardio has been minimal throughout the whole process. Losing weight has always been VERY difficult for me, but it has been so motivating knowing that Sully has my back every step of the way and the whole team is supporting me.
When I was feeling down about my progress and wanted to quit, Sully stepped up, gave me a refeed and scheduled a photoshoot to show me how far we had come. This was the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me. After seeing the photos I was in shock, Sully built an athlete. It's truly crazy to see what we have done and I am so excited to keep growing with the Sloths.
As a client I'm sure it has been difficult for Sully to keep up with me changing goals every 3 months or so, but he is always supportive and up front about what we can realistically accomplish. Then he quickly builds a plan and we hit the ground running!
Working with Sully I have conquered lingering disordered eating and body dysmorphia. I have learned so much about different training modalities and how to really love lifting as more than just a means to an aesthetic goal. The Power Sloths gained an athlete and I gained a family and a lifelong friend.
Thank you Sully, you are the best coach I could have ever asked for and a true friend.

Sully convinced me to sign up for a powerlifting meet and begin my training, from scratch, 12 weeks out. At that time I was scared and thought "Eh let's give it a shot". 12 weeks later and I was setting personal bests in all events, earning 3rd place in my weight class, and feeling more confident in my physical and mental capacity than ever! Working with the Sloths has not only introduced me to a new hobby but a new community of wonderful humans. Everyone I have interacted with has been unbelievably kind, nonjudgmental, and incredibly supportive. They are genuinely excited to see you improve and are willing to offer any tips and tricks to help you do so. Strong(wo)man Sundays that the Sloths put on are now the best part of my week. If you know you love lifting, sign up with the Sloths. If you are nervous about lifting or feeling unsure, sign up with the Sloths. If you've never even heard of lifting, sign up with the Sloths! You'll be getting so much more than a coaching membership and great workout.

When I think about coaching, there are two things that come to mind. Firstly, is the coach/program in line with your goals? Secondly, is the coach/program a good fit for you, and will they offer feedback, critique, and be your hype person? That’s exactly what I’ve found with the Power Sloths, and Coach Sully. From Day 1, I was asked what my goals are, and we’ve made progress every week to get one step closer to where I want to be. It’s not always easy, but heck it’s not supposed to be, right?! Sully and The Sloth family know when to turn up the heat during the programming and they certainly know how to celebrate even the smallest of victories. These last five months have flown by quickly, and I can’t imagine where I will be a year from now with their programming.

I competed in my first meet in March of 2021, I did that meet on my own but I knew I could do better with the right guidance so I looked for a coach. I’d seen Sully around the gym and we’d talked as I became more involved with the lifting community in Flagstaff. I knew he coached so I decided to sign up for programming since I knew him a little and had seen what he’d helped others achieve.
Since I started working with him my totals have only gone up and many PR’s have been set. I can’t say I have always been the best client but Sully has always been there to right the ship and keep me on track to where I need to go.
Since I signed up for Power Sloth programming, I’ve competed in both Strongman and Powerlifting competitions with Sully by my side each step of the way. We have continued to push the limits of what I can do and achieve and it has paid off each and every time.
He has not only helped me with my strength, but has also been there in some of my darkest moments. He worked with me to adjust the programming to what I could handle in those dark moments and was always there if I needed anything. He has gone above and beyond being just my coach.
I have not only found an astonishing coach and a close friendship with Sully, but have also found my family in the Power Sloths and it’s growing community.
